Thao created Whimsheet out of frustration with the difficulty of finding classes for her friends. Even though she loved taking these courses herself, she discovered that finding something that suited her schedule was no easy task. It wasn't just hard to find the right institutions — it was just as difficult to navigate and compare what they offered.

Broadening her perspective, she realized that people from all walks of life faced the same barrier. The difficulty of sorting through so many options might be exactly why many people never pursue their hobbies at all. And these hobbies aren't just enjoyable in their own right — they're how people build community, meet neighbors, and shape a fuller life.

Whimsheet is also, quietly, a way for Thao to honor her mother, who was taken from her before she had the chance to fully explore the world. If this resource can remove even one barrier between someone and the thing that brings them joy, that feels like a fitting tribute.
